Zoo Trip

On June 1st, we headed to the Washington Park Zoo in Michigan City with Jonathan and Laure. It's a nice little zoo. Unfortunately they do not have elephants or giraffes. So we still have to take Alicia to a big one. We had a gorgeous day until right as we were finishing up. When we got to Monkey Island, the thunder started to rumble and we saw a little lightning. We were almost through, so we finished up and headed toward the car. It started raining while we were laoding things into the trunk. Alicia and her Uncle Jonathan at Monkey Island. She was so excited to spend time with him!

So, the reptiles are in the children's castle. I did NOT use my flash for this guy. But after I took the picture, he was seriously following me with his eyes and glaring.

Meet Star... who had to be lured out of hiding with a big ol' hunk of meat. And that did not seem to satisfy him. As Alicia was running back and forth between us, Star appeared to be tracking her... complete with hunkering down as if ready to spring... thank goodness for strong cages! Star was, well, the star of Alicia's day!

They have an aviary near the beginning of the park. At first, Alicia wanted nothing to do with it, because the macaws were really loud. Then we convinced her to go in and we bought a feeding stick for the little guys. She was all ready to get out of there, when I was finally able to get one of these little guys on a stick. We ended up staying for quite awhile. She even got brave and would (gently) touch the back of their heads.

This is a little statue at the entrance of the park. It has a pool around it. Isn't she a cutie!
